Behind on your books? Bring them as they are.

I'm Louis, a bookkeeper and accounts preparer serving clients in Co. Kildare and remotely across Ireland. Eight years in accountancy practice, working on the other side of the desk, so I know what your accountant needs at year end, and how to have it ready before the deadline rather than after it.

Since 2018
In accountancy practice across three firms, preparing accounts, tax and payroll.
12+ sectors
From medical practices and solicitors to construction, transport and catering.
8 systems
Xero, Sage, Sage 50, QuickBooks, Klyant, Relate, Thesaurus, BrightPay.

What I do

Pick one thing or hand over the lot. Most clients start with a catch-up, then keep me on monthly.

Bookkeeping

Day-to-day records, bank reconciliations, sales and purchase invoicing. Set up once so it stays tidy, rather than rebuilt every January.

Moving to Xero

If your books live in a spreadsheet, I'll move you across and configure it properly. I also work in Sage, Sage 50, QuickBooks, Klyant, Relate and Thesaurus, so I can pick up whatever you already use.

VAT returns

Prepared, reviewed and filed on time, with the backup kept where you can find it if Revenue ever asks.

Payroll

Monthly payroll runs and PAYE submissions through BrightPay and Sage, including starters, leavers and statutory deductions.

Accounts preparation

Full financial statements under FRS 105 and FRS 102 Section 1A, start to finish, with variance and margin analysis so the numbers actually tell you something. I prepare the accounts ready for sign-off by an accountancy practice; I don't sign them off myself.

Tax returns

Income tax for sole traders and professionals. Corporation tax for limited companies, including capital allowance schedules, Section 438 charges on director loans, and travel and subsistence calculations.

Company filings

B1 annual returns, changes of accounting year end, shareholder and director changes.

About me

I've worked in accountancy practice since 2018.

That background matters for one reason. I've been the person waiting on a client's records at year end, chasing the same three missing invoices for a month. So I know exactly what's needed, what's usually missing, and how to ask for it without a long back and forth.

Most people come to me because they're behind, because the books don't reconcile, or because three different people have touched the file and none of them finished it. None of that puts me off. I'll tell you what it takes to put right before any work starts, so the first invoice isn't a surprise.

I'm based in Leixlip, Co. Kildare, and work with clients throughout Ireland, remotely and in person where it's useful.

How it works

Four steps from first email to books you don't have to think about.

  1. Tell me where things stand

A short email or call. What the business does, how far behind you are, and what software or shoebox the records are currently in.

  2. I look at what you have

I review the records as they are and come back with what's there, what's missing, and what it will take to bring it up to date.

  3. A fixed quote in writing

One figure for the catch-up, and a monthly figure going forward if you want ongoing bookkeeping or payroll. No hourly surprises.

  4. Then it stays done

Records kept current, VAT and payroll filed on time, and a clean file handed to your accountant well before year end.

Questions people ask first

If yours isn't here, ask it in the form below and I'll answer it straight.

Do I need to be near you to work with you?

No. I work with clients across Ireland remotely and meet in person where it's useful. Records can arrive as photos, scans, a shared folder, or an actual shoebox.

My books are a mess and I'm behind. Is that a problem?

No, that's the point at which most people call. I'll tell you what it takes to catch up before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the first invoice.

Which accounting software do you work in?

Xero, Sage, Sage 50, QuickBooks, Klyant, Relate, Thesaurus and BrightPay, some more than others. If you use one I know less well, or one that isn't on this list, I'll get up to speed quickly, because the bookkeeping underneath is the same.

How is the work priced?

A fixed monthly fee for ongoing bookkeeping and payroll, and a fixed quote for one-off jobs like a set of accounts or a catch-up. You get the figure in writing before anything begins.

Can you sign off or advise on my accounts?

No. I hold an accounting qualification but not a practising certificate, so I don't sign off accounts and I don't give accounting or tax advice. What I do is prepare the work, your books, your accounts and your tax returns, so that an accountancy practice can review it, advise you and sign it off. If you don't have an accountant, I can point you to one.

Will you work alongside my existing accountant?

Happily. A good deal of my work is keeping records in the shape an accountant wants them, which usually shortens their job and lowers their fee.
